John "JJ" Burke Woodland City Council Position #1 Happy to be a Voting Member of the people! I will always Listen! THANK YOU for all of your support in 2007 Elections! NEWS FLASH: Surveys have stated that TRAFFIC is the #1 Problem, with Growth Control As #2 and Job Creation #3. I have NOT knocked at your door. I feel that your space is yours, and if you would like to chat, call me, e-mail me, invite me, or stop by my shop and we can have a chat. Your time is valuable, and if you are like me, you don't like telemarketers, and that is what I believe door knocking boils down to being.
| | I am retired veteran, 23 years in the U.S. Coast Guard as a Senior Chief (E-8), and have been on the Woodland city council since 2002. We are here not to work for a special interest group, but for the vast majority of the people. Your concern is mine. As a member of the Woodland city council and you have a problem, please let me know, and I will esculate it to the right people. Remember, Arron, Marilee, Darwin and I will go to bat for you!. |
PLEASE FILL OUT SURVEY FOR ME TO MAKE OUR CITY MY PRIORITY ! SURVEY Traffic Issues
| Traffic issues on 503 are a problem. We need to slow down on building, and fix the problem. There is a traffic study being conducted to see how we can improve during the next 20 years. This study should take about 18 months starting October 2006. A little late I would say, but it is welcomed, and a start to fixing this major problem in our city. We need to focus on the State Hwy 503 and get it fixed from the traffic congestion, especially in the summer months. I will not make a promise I can't keep. The Council will have to be the deciding factor on getting the work authorized. |
Pool Issues
| The pool will cost our citizens money! I would not mind a pool, but the Horseshoe Park is not the right place. A 379 ft long building and 30 foot high taking out the road, and some of the park is unacceptable. Why use the land in the park? Then we will be TAXED! There is currently land on located on Glenwood St, which could be used, and the pool could be done with in a couple of years! If the people vote not to pay to support the pool, then it can be sold to someone else to take it over. This can not happen on at the Horsehoe lake location. It will cost $1700.00 per day or more to maintain that pool. That means a levy will have to be put in to take care of it and the YMCA. The last 3 levy's in Woodland have failed (School, Fire District 1, now twice, and the New Fire Station) Would one for the pool make it? Probably not!!! So what happens to a vacant pool building in the park? I am also concerned about the cost that will be placed on us, the residents for the maintainance. I seriously feel that it would be a financial burden on us tax payers. A special meeting was held in Sept. 2006. The people asked the pool committee many questions, and we were told that they would have them answered in the next month. Well it has been 10 months, and we still have no answers. Is this the way they will handle the rest of our concerns? I am afraid we need to move on, and take a giant step to prevent waiting another 50 years for a pool. Resolution 463 stated it would not cost the citizens any money have have the pool. To date, it has cost $25,000.00 in court costs. IT was stated that if it becomes a burden to the citizens, the council could reconcider it. But with a majority of the council on the side of those who support a pool in the park, I doubt that it will happen. I tried back in September 2006 but got threatened by the mayor and attorney that we could be held personnally liable. So, some are afraid. I am not, and I will continue to fight for the people. Again, a financial burden is not what we need, I rather spend our money on traffic issues. I can tell you, in the 6 years I have been on the City Council, the pool is NO closer then when the resolution 463 was passed in 2002. In fact, one of the hold ups, is that Mr. Dobbe can not give the city a free and clear title for the land he owns. This land has to be donated to us before anything can be short plated. There is little money in the pool account, (less then a 1/2 million), and we are looking at a 6 million dollar project using 2002 prices. So, when you put it all together, it does not make sense. So far the citizens of Woodland have spent $25,000.00 in attorney fees fighting this issue, and we have nothing to show for it. How much more do you want to spend? I don't want to spend any more tax money on it. I do like to see a pool, but the land owned on Glennwood St. is ready to build, and I say get it done there. A pool is a destination place and people would use it there. I support that 100%. |
I will not make you any promises about fixing traffic, the swimming pool, or items that have and will be a problem for awhile.
